Creativity thrives in community. That belief has guided me throughout my career whether at Lifeway, at the SBC Executive Committee, or with church leaders, authors, or content creators in a different setting. Over the past few years, I’ve had an incredible number of opportunities to better connect with church leaders, authors, and content creators on social media as well as in person. The only issue was that I didn’t have the bandwidth to help them achieve their goals and make a lasting impact like I once did.

But last fall, my role at the SBC Executive Committee changed slightly as I was named Vice President for Convention Administration. When I stepped into that role, I realized that for the first time in 13 years, I was not responsible for a daily piece of content that needed to be online.

Not since November 2011, when I started at Lifeway, had I not had a daily content deadline. Whether it was a podcast, blog post, news story, or social media content—I was responsible. But now, that weight was lifted.

I didn’t realize how much pressure came with that until late fall. But the weird thing was, I missed creating and shaping content. When you have been doing something for so long, it feels weird when it’s gone.

I truly believe we all need an outlet for creativity—at least I do.

That’s why I’m thrilled to announce the relaunch of HoweOriginal.com.

My intent is for this to be a space designed to provide practical tools, insightful strategies, and collaborative opportunities to help you expand your reach and grow your influence.

Let me be clear though: this is not some full-time thing or some new pathway for me to jump out on my own. I absolutely love my role at the SBC Executive Committee and have zero desire to ever leave that. It’s an absolute joy to serve Southern Baptists each day, and a responsibility I don’t take lightly. But my new role gives me a sliver of bandwidth to start writing and creating again—at least until the SBC Annual Meeting fully consumes my life this summer (I fully expect a hiatus in June here at the website).
